The Grange Hall Cultural Center is proud to present Rob Mermin in Silents Are Golden as part of the 2020 One & Only Seriesrunning January through April at the Grange Hall Cultural Center. In Silents Are Golden, Mermin’s intention is to shed new light on the acting style of the silent film era while giving modern audiences a fresh and entertaining look at what made the silent starts shine so brightly. Both entertaining and educational, this presentation is lavishly illustrated with clips from 100 silent film comedies and dramas and is a celebration of the art of physical acting seen through the lens of silent cinema. This is what Marcel Marceau, one of Mermin’s seminal mentors and trainers, called the “silent language of the soul.”
“I love presenting this program,” says Mermin. “I have taken this show to several countries, and it is like bringing adults to the circus for the first time in decades and watching a childlike wonder and delight return to their faces.”
The show features a dazzling array of film clips starring:
Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, Douglas Fairbanks, Rudolph Valentino,Greta Garbo, Marion Davies, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Harry Langdon, Harold Lloyd, Laurel & Hardy, and many more!
Rob Mermin is a classically trained pantomime actor, teacher, and director. He studied with mime masters Marcel Marceau and Etienne Decroux before embarking on a forty-year career in circus, theater, TV and film, and lecturing in places as diverse as the Kennedy Center and the Moscow Circus. “A brilliant evocation of the silent screen era and a loving homage to its stars. The evening was at times poignant, personal, humorous, and thoroughly entertaining.”
