Whether you are a beginner looking to get started or a pro who wants some feedback there is something for everyone in this one hour class. For the novice, you’ll learn the basic techniques of simple sleight of hand magic. You’ll be shown three magic tricks and then each trick will be broken down to its basic comments to see not only how it works, but why it works. For the seasoned performer, you’ll get direct and honest feedback on an act your are working one and a collaborative session of tweaks and adjustments to make it better.
Nelson Lugo Bio:
Nelson Lugo is a magician, raconteur, former ringmaster, Batman enthusiast, and burgeoning grifter. Known for heartfelt illusions and wry honesty he is a noted and celebrated performer in the underground NYC and East Coast cabaret scenes. Nelson Lugo, The Charming Trickster, studied acting at the American Musical & Dramatic Academy. Studied better acting at the William Esper Studios under the exacting tutelage of Maggie Flanagan. Learned magic at the ripe old age of nine by reading Harry Blackstone Jr. books. Puppeteer full body puppets for the Jim Henson Co. for two years. Became a storyteller by never winning a Moth Story Slam. Learned showmanship from Harry Anderson and reruns of Night Court. Honed his Hosting/MC skills from the trial-by-fire that is the NYC burlesque scene. Learned everything he knows about the art of sideshow from the Coney Island Wonder Worker himself Todd Robbins. Trained as a clown doctor at the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Program.
Mr. Lugo created and produced “Vaudeville Nouveau,” “EPIC WIN Burlesque,” “International Nerdlesque Festival.” We wrote and performed “Gathering TheMagic” a solo storytelling show with magic that ran for 73 performances all across the United States and in Denmark; was selected to be a guest ringmaster for the Big Apple Circus show “Metamorphosis,” understudy to John Kennedy Kane, and co-hosts a monthly podcast on the nerdyshow.com network called “The EPIC PIEcast”. Lastly, he is an aspiring vintage music DJ and pie maker.
